Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter District

The Greater Austin – San Antonio Corridor Council partners on projects through out the entire region.  Currently three (3) projects stand at the forefront, each developing to revolutionize this regions way of generating economic growth. Please select a project to read more about it.

Project 3 is the Austin-San Antonio Intermunicipal Commuter District. Currently nearly 3 million people reside along the Corridor between Georgetown and San Antonio and each relies heavily on IH 35 as their major thoroughfare. Projections show that by 2020, the population along this 110 mile stretch of highway is expected to nearly double. Commuter Rail will be a must. Whether the travel is for business or pleasure, a passenger rail service will;
  1. Increase employment opportunities
  2. Expand tourism, sports, attractions and special event markets
  3. Improve our quality of life while making it possible for our visitors to travel freely between our communities along the Corridor safely.
