Mark your calendars: The Corridor Council Executive Committee meets Wednesday, June 20, 2:00 pm at the Council offices in San Marcos. Please RSVP to sarah@thecorridor.org. Infrastructure Well, it wasn't pretty but at least it's over. The 80th Session of the Texas Legislature will surely go down as one of the most contentious in recent memory. The good: SH 130 got renamed The Pickle Parkway. The bad: SB 792, the compromise toll road moratorium bill that really targets Comprehensive Development Agreements, has something in it to make everyone unhappy. The ugly: financing for the Texas Rail Relocation Fund was gutted by the Conference on Urban Counties and the Dallas Mobility Coalition, with help from the Chemical Producers and the Texas Oil and Gas Association. The bright side: at least they only meet every two years. TxDOT's second annual Texas Transportation Forum will be held on July 18-20 at the Hilton Hotel in downtown Austin. This year’s theme is “Keep Texas Moving.” Breakout sessions include topics such as Freight – Trucks, Ports, Rail and Air; The Cost of Congestion; The Road to Economic Prosperity; Legislative Update: Austin and Washington, D.C.; and The Trans-Texas Corridor. Discounted registration is available until June 13. For more information, visit www.texastransportationforum.com. Economic Development The Texas Research and Technology Foundation is moving forward with plans to establish a business accelerator (incubator) facility to house start-up bioscience companies in San Antonio. The incubator will occupy between 10,000 and 15,000 sq. ft. in the new building and is expected to house 10 to 14 start-up companies offering services like clean rooms, legal and consulting services as well as office space inside the University of Texas Health Science Center's new South Texas Research Facility. A Central Texas plastics manufacturer is consolidating its operations in a new Georgetown plant, bringing 48 jobs to the Williamson County. R&D Molders makes a variety of products including medical machine components, industrial containers, fishing lures, sporting goods and toys. R&D is relocating from two smaller facilities in East Austin and Lockhart to an existing 60,000-sq. ft. building at 107 Central Blvd. just east of I-35. Round Rock's Dell Computers will begin selling some of its PCs in Wal-Mart's locations around the country, Dell's first step back into retail since the 1990s. North Texas will be home to the Super Bowl in 2011. Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said the size of the new $1 billion Cowboys stadium in Arlington was a key factor in getting the votes to land the event. The event is expected to draw 250,000 people and between $300-400 million in revenue to North Texas. The next phase of Austin's new high profile Domain project will feature another popular department store, a sporting goods retailer and a cinema. Dillard's, Dick's Sporting Goods and Village Road Show Gold class Cinema will open in spring 2009 as part of the 300,000-sq. ft. second phase of the project at MoPac Blvd and Braker Lane. Cedar Park is getting ready for a bond election in November that will fund city buildings, parks and roads. The city is in the process of assessing municipal needs and hasn't determined the amount for the bond proposition yet. Transportation has become a focus in the city as it experiences record residential and commercial growth, and at least 25 roads are under consideration for this November's bond package. Capital Metro is celebrating its new Leander Park & Ride Grand Opening on June 2, located on Highway 183, one block north of FM 2243. Free BBQ Lunch & Concert featuring Dale Watson.
