Economic Development Profile

The Austin-San Antonio Corridor offers strategic advantages for almost any business:  educational opportunities, transportation infrastructure, geographic location, quality of life, labor pool, and local government commitments to economic development.

One of the Corridor's most valuable institutional resources is its colleges and universities.  These institutions not only educate and train the professional and technical workforce that are the basis for the region's high-tech industry, but also act as a magnet and incentive for these industries to locate in the region.  Universities represent a source of both entrepreneurial and technological development that, when focused on the needs of businesses, provide opportunities for industrial expansion and retention.

The progressive pro-business attitude and political leadership found in the Corridor Communities also encourage industrial growth through external promotion, coordinated workforce-planning with educational institutions, careful long-term infrastructure development, and advantageous tax structures.  Most communities offer a variety of tax-related incentives to industries and businesses interested in settling in the Corridor.

Economic development is further facilitated by state laws and regulations which encourage business development.  Texas is a Right to Work state and has no state corporate or personal income tax.

The Corridor's labor rates throughout the region are very competitive.  A motivated, highly-trained, and talented labor force thrives in the non-union atmosphere found in Texas.  Employers throughout the Corridor routinely rank their employees as their most productive anywhere.

The Corridor is also blessed with an abundance of natural resources and is served by low cost utilities. Electric rates are extremely stable and among the lowest in the nation
Adequate natural gas and water supplies, reliable electric service, and a willing labor force guarantee a favorable long term operating environment for companies in the region.

The Corridor Counties –
- are bound by more than the concrete and steel of Interstate 35.

Area leaders recognize that common economic, social, and environmental goals unite the region in a definable development zone offering an excellent, expanding business climate and an enviable lifestyle.
