nified
market, the region would be poised to attract even more businesses, jobs and
investment opportunities than as single markets. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style=3D'color:black'>Slightly more than half -- or 56 percent -- =
of all
participants to an online San Antonio Business Journal survey agreed with <=
span
class=3DSpellE>Tullos</span>. Many say the development along Interstate 35
demonstrates it is likely that the two cities -- and all the communities
between -- will converge into a unified market. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style=3D'color:black'>Several urged the completion of the Austin-S=
an
Antonio Commuter Rail District project, which has been envisioned as an
alternate route from I-35 between the two cities. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style=3D'color:black'>However, many of the survey participants agr=
eed
that there are too many obstacles in the way between <st1:City w:st=3D"on">=
San
Antonio</st1:City> and <st1:City w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=3D"on">Austin=
</st1:place></st1:City>
to prevent that from happening anytime soon. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style=3D'color:black'>Several who weighed in on the issue said tha=
t if <st1:City
w:st=3D"on">San Antonio</st1:City> and <st1:City w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:s=
t=3D"on">Austin</st1:place></st1:City>
ever did become known as a single market, such as the Dallas-Fort <span
class=3DGramE>Worth</span> <span class=3DSpellE>Metroplex</span>, it won't =
happen
for another 30 or more years. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style=3D'color:black'>Some said having a combined San Antonio-Aust=
in
market could help land another major professional sports team to the area. =
The
real benefit would be the increase in size of the combined market's Designa=
ted
Market Area, also known as a media market. By capturing a larger <span
class=3DSpellE>viewership</span> of residents across multiple cities, this =
may
make the region more viable for advertisers and professional sports sponsor=
s,
one said. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><span style=3D'color:black'>Another 38 percent of survey participants sa=
id the
two markets won't eventually converge because the cultures and political
visions of the two cities are too different. More than one person said that=
<st1:City
w:st=3D"on">Austin</st1:City>'s and <st1:City w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=
=3D"on">San
Antonio</st1:place></st1:City>'s egos would prevent them from aligning wi=
th
each other. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p><st1:City w:st=3D"on"><span style=3D'color:black'>San Antonio</span></st=
1:City><span
style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:black'> would be better o=
ff
joining up with a city like <st1:City w:st=3D"on"><st1:place w:st=3D"on">Co=

Christi</st1:place></st1:City>, another said. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

were
